BUBBLES LAB Monday, September 21, 2014 IWBAT: analyze and evaluate appropriate charts, graphs, and tables. IWBAT: use SI units for measurement. IWBAT: use appropriate technology and laboratory procedures safely for observing, measuring, recording, and analyzing data. IWBAT: accurately record and use information obtained while conducting investigations. IWBAT: identify and critically evaluate information in data, tables, and graphs.

Step 1: Label “Bubble Lab” in your lab section of your notebook in the Lab Table of Contents. It’s the 2 nd entry under Fizz Lab. Step 2: Go to the 2 nd page of Labs. Title it “Bubble Lab” Step 3: Write the question: Does the color of dishwashing soap make a difference in the size of the bubbles? Step 4: Develop your hypothesis. Remember your if…then…because statement. Use your notes and lab partners to help. QUESTIONS: WRITE IN YOUR NOTEBOOK

Create a table label it Color 1, 2, and 3. Include 5 trials and an average column. Title it Diameter of Bubbles in cm PREPARATION FOR LAB Trial“Color 1”“Color 2”“Color 3” 1cm Average Diameter of Bubbles

In your table groups of 4, Determine the which of you will hold the following positions (write it in your notebook): 1)Leader: Speaks for the group, makes sure everyone is on task 2)Materials: Gathers and returns all materials, makes sure area is cleaned up (with help from all) 3)Recorder: Records and distributes data. 4) Measurer: Measures diameter in cm. EVERYONE BLOWS the BUBBLES!!! PREPARATION FOR LAB

Remember: IF YOU ARE NOT FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS YOU WILL BE REMOVED (SIR FORM)! Materials: straws (1 for each person), fresh water, safety goggles Put on safety goggles and prepare table surface by wetting it slightly and adding a drip of colored soap. Dip straw into bubble solution and blow a bubble onto the wet surface. Practice blowing bubbles until you can blow a large bubble without it popping. PROCEDURES

PROCEDURES….. Blow a bubble until it pops. The popped bubble will leave a ring on the table Measure the diameter of the bubble in cm and record your data table Repeat 4 times Repeat steps with each color of soap Average your data

1.Remember to write the question and answer in complete sentences!! 2.What is the independent variable in this investigation? 3.What is the dependent variable in this investigation? 4.What are the controls in this investigation? 5.What are the control variables in this investigation. 6.In your journal, create a BAR GRAPH to show your data. Use your average diameter of the bubble for each brand. Make sure your graph has: Title and a label for each axis. 7.Why is a bar graph the best choice for this data? 8.What does the data tell you about the three different kinds of dishwashing soap and bubbles? ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS?

Describe what you have learned about soap bubble solutions. Answer the original question, explain why your hypothesis was supported or not supported by the data, and use actual data (specific numbers) to provide evidence for what you say. REFLECTION:
