Interactions Chapter 2 Section 2

Interactions of living things Organisms interact in different ways. Many interactions between organisms in an ecosystem involve food.

1. Predator/prey Predator: An animal that eats another. Prey: An animal that is eaten by a predator.

2. Competition Competition: The struggle between individuals or different populations for a limited resource.

3. Cooperation Cooperation: An interaction in which organisms work in a way that benefits them all. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/47254991/ns/ technology_and_science- science/t/dolphins-help-fishermen-catch- fish

Symbiosis Symbiosis: The interaction between individuals from two different species that live closely together. Read page 58 to learn about the 3 types of Symbiosis:

4. Mutualism Mutualism: An interaction between two species that benefits both.

5. Commensalism Commensalism: A relationship between two species in which one species benefits while the other is not affected.

6. Parasitism Parasitism: A relationship between two species in which one species benefits while the species it depends on, its host, is harmed.

Assignment in your notes 6 interactions……. List them (they are in your notes and numbered) Write the name of each and then a real-life example Homework: 2.2 worksheet
