What is the Job of each Organelle? Organelles Make up Cells!

Is this a plant or animal cell?

1. Nucleus The “brain” of the cell. Controls the cell’s activities. Holds the DNA of eukaryotes. 2. Nuclear Membrane Controls what goes in and out of the nucleus

3. Chromosome Inside the nucleus Your DNA Holds your genetic info/instructions

4. NucleOlus In the center of the nucleus Makes the ribosomes

5. Ribosomes Look like tiny dots! Make proteins from DNA’s message.

6. Endoplasmic Reticulum ER can be rough (has ribosomes) or smooth (no ribosomes) Transports proteins around the cell

- FLAT SACS - PACKAGES AND SHIPS PROTEINS AROUND THE CELL AND TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE CELL 7. Golgi Body

BREAKS DOWN OR RECYCLES OLD CELL PARTS AND MACRO- MOLECULES 8. Lysosomes

USED FOR STORAGE FOR WATER, SUGAR, SALTS, WASTES 9. Vacuole

10. Mitochondrion Mighty Mitochondria! Breaks down sugar to make ATP (energy).

11. Chloroplast Captures the sun’s energy and makes sugar Contains chlorophyll

12. Cytoskeleton Supports the cell/gives it shape Helps the organelles move

13. Centrioles Helps the animal cell divide

14. Cell membrane Phospholipid bilayer Outside layer of cell (like skin) Controls what goes in and out

15. Cell Wall Like a wall Support & protection
