DAILY DAZZLE This PowerPoint will show you examples of how to do each type of Daily Dazzle question.
1. singular/plural If the word is SINGULAR (ONE), make it PLURAL. man… men If the word is PLURAL (MORE THAN ONE), make it SINGULAR. women… woman
2. correct verb Read the sentence. Which verb (action word) is correct? Circle or underline it. (Lay, Lie) the book on the table, please.
3. roots and affixes Divide the word into three parts: the prefix, the root, and the suffix. Label each part. incredible in cred ible P R S
4. figurative language/sound devices Answer the question. Metaphor: comparison without “like” or “as” Simile: comparison with “like” or “as” Personification: giving non-human things human traits (The sun smiled on us.) Onomatopoeia: sound words (SCREECH!) Hyperbole: exaggeration (a million times) Idiom: expression that does not mean the same as what the words say (raining cats and dogs) Alliteration: same consonant sound repeated (Beth Busby baked brownies.)
5. fact/opinion Can the statement be proved or disproved? Yes? It’s a fact (either correct or incorrect). There are 13 boys in Mrs. Busby’s first period class. No? It’s an opinion. I think this assignment is easy.
6. correct word Choose the spelling of the word that fits the meaning of the sentence. Underline it. Put your homework over (their, there).
