½” Black binder with plastic sleeves (10-20) Pencil Composition notebook or loose leaf paper Staff book or manuscript paper ( Individual instrument supplies (strings, reeds) Guitar pick Black “Music MLK-8” Polo ( about $15, to be ordered at a later date) Concert attire: black shirt, black shoes, and black pants.
Be on time (2 minute leeway) Focus on assignment Complete home learning (10% of grade) Poor behavior (talking, gum chewing, tardiness will not be tolerated) Discipline: follow school wide discipline procedures Students will lose instrument privileges if he/she does not demonstrate responsible behaviors and will be given an alternate assignment
All students will be required to pay the music fee ($4 to $6). This is a fee to cover costs associated with the use of musical equipment. Will be collected at a later date- do not send your child to school with $$ until further notice.
Performances are mandatory- 2 week notice must be given if a child is going to miss a performance. (Absence due to illness will require a note from parents.) Spring Concert and Fine Arts Night Additional performances for Chorus will be scheduled and are mandatory (Holiday Show, Main Street December Entertainment, Disney, various teacher celebration performances)
Home Learning 10% Performances 45% Class work 45% (lowest grade is dropped) Extra credit will count towards Home Learning (research and write a 2 paragraph essay about a musician or musical instrument)
Do your own research DO NOT PLAGARISE other’s work or it will be an automatic “F” Write everything in your own words ( I prefer “kid” language that shows student comprehension to college textbook language) Use citations and a bibliography This applies to ALL assignments that include writing about musicians or music history! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The child is responsible for the assigned instrument Any damage caused by irresponsible behavior will result in the replacement or repair of the instrument paid for by the parents Sign Instrument Responsibility form Students are encouraged to purchase their own instrument!
