 ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS—Early Humans, Mesopotamia, Hebrews, Egypt, China, India, Greece, Rome  Text book at home and at school  Simulations 1 st & 3 rd Trimesters  Lessons on PowerPoint  Vocab Cards  Projects (30% of grade)

 50% of grade  Students have at least one week notice for all Quizzes & Tests  Tests will go home to get signed, but need to be returned to school  NO RE-DO tests will be given

 20% of grade  Unfinished class work needs to be finished at home  Approximately 90 minutes for all subjects—read or study for the remainder of the time  Late work will be accepted up 2 days late for half credit  Projects will lose 10% for every day they are late No Excuses:  Daily planners  Homework Hotline

 Textbook—stays in class, can go home when needed  Class Novels – Maniac Magee, Tuck Everlasting, & The Giver (each student will have a copy)  Accelerated Reader (15% of grade) › Students need to earn a specific number of points EACH trimester › STAR Reading test will be taken soon to find student reading levels  Weekly Story quizzes (25%)  Chapter Tests (30%)  Classwork/homework (20%)  Participation (10%)

 Spelling › Prefixes, suffixes & Greek/Latin roots › Words given on Wednesdays › Menu due the following Wednesday › In class activities on Friday and following Monday › Class work/Homework 20% of grade › Quizzes on Wednesdays (30%)  Writing (50%) › Many small pieces, one to two paragraphs › 1-2 process pieces per trimester › Focus on narrative, informative, and claims & evidence › Grammar--Pronouns

 Handbook › Signature Page is due Friday, Aug. 14  Signing Yellow form means you have read and understand handbook items › Graduation information  6 th grade GPA counts toward graduation › Dress Code › Cell phone policy
