Female Reproduction System By Zoë & Rosalie

A BIT ABOUT OUR PROJECT The organs and structures of the female reproductive system give women the ability to produce a baby. They do this by producing eggs to be fertilised by sperm from a man. They also provide a place for the unborn baby (fetus) to grow and develop.

DEFINITIONS: ● Ovaries: A female reproductive organ in which ova or eggs are produced, present in humans and other vertebrates as a pair. ● Cervix: Allow menstrual blood from the uterus into the vagina and directs the sperm into the uterus during intercourse. ● Vagina: Channel that allows the sperm to reach the uterus and further the uterus and once the baby is ready to go out, the vagina helps it’s way out. ● Uterus: Thick-Walled muscular organ capable of expansion to accommodate a growing fetus. ● Fallopian Tubes: (in a female mammal) A pair of tubes along which eggs travel from the ovaries to the uterus.

FUNCTIONS The female reproductive system has many organs but some or less important than others. The main functions of the Female Reproductive System are: 1. To enable sperm to enter the body 1. To protect the internal genital organs from infectious organisms ● It produces the female egg cells necessary for reproduction, called the ova. This system is designed to transport the ova to the site of fertilization. Conception, the fertilization of an egg by a sperm, normally occurs in the fallopian tubes. ● It provides a place for the unborn baby (fetus) to grow and develop before it is born. (Two main ones)

ACCESSORY ORGANS & HOW THEY ASSIST WITH FRS IN ITS FUNCTIONS 1. Primary organs used for the reproduction. 2. The hypothalamus (which is a part of the brain) releases hormones which help trigger a woman's menstrual period and help a woman through childbirth. 3. The breasts, which every girl/woman has. They provide milk to feed a baby.

HOW ORGANS WORK TO MAKE BABIES This video shows how the organs work to make a baby ❖ The female reproductive system is basically how all organs of the body work to make babies. From baby to adult, you have a thousand of cells, you have them since you are born (that is how babies grow). Inside you is a very good place for the eggs inside you to meet with male sperm to grow a whole human being. SEE NEXT SLIDE

HOW THE ORGANS OF A FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE A BABY PART 2 When an egg or ova leaves the ovary, it travels down the Fallopian tube. If the male has deposited semen-filled sperm in the female's vagina and one of the sperm reaches the egg in the Fallopian tube by swimming up the vagina, through the cervix and uterus, it can then become a fertilized egg. This is called conception. The fertilized egg becomes multicellular and is called a blastocyst. The blastocyst enters the uterus and nestles into its lining filled with blood called the endometrium. This is called implantation. Gestation is the time a female carries an embryo or fetus (unborn baby) inside her. The blastocyst grows rapidly into an embryo. After about two months, almost all of its parts have formed including the brain and nerves, the heart and blood, the stomach and intestines, and the muscles and skin. From 9 weeks until birth, the embryo is called a fetus. It continues to grow rapidly. The fetus receives nourishment from the placenta which is attached to the uterus and transports nutrients from the mother's blood to the fetus through the umbilical cord.

Interesting Facts And Other Info ● The egg is the biggest cell in the female body ● The vagina has something in common with tomatoes: they're both acidic. ● Male sperm are significantly smaller than the female egg ● A woman never runs out of eggs. ● Not all mammals have similar reproductive systems as humans.
