 ABC approach: Abstain, Be Faithful, and correct and consistent use of Condoms  Prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT)  Focus on Blood Safety  Injection Safety  Counseling  Education

 The recommended protocol is to treat with antiretroviral drugs ARTs.  They are: Zidovudine, Stavudine, Didanosine, and Lamivudine.  4 week regimens are usually recommended after post exposure  Occupational exposure is considered a urgent medical concern

 CD4 counts to check the T-Cells  HIV viral Load  CMP; comprehensive chemistry panel  LIPID; Cholesterol testing  CBC; complete blood cell count  STD’s;, Toxoplasmosis, CMV, RPR  Hepatitis C antibody, HIV ½ antibody  Hepatitis A total antibody levels
