Presentation transcript:

ABOUT THE LEARNER GROUP For these activities we decided to switch to our Senior Citizens English workshop. This group is composed in majority of women aged about 60 to 70. All are retired but often complain they have not enough time to handle the various activities they have and to combine these with their family life as parents and grandparents. We discussed the time saving factor during several lessons. The interviews were conducted after having examined and discussed the Time saving adverts and slogans (see below) and completed the “Who are you?” questionnaire with a small sample group.

With this convocation to present your car at the technical security control you have the choice between: - waiting in a queue (Monday to Friday) from 7am to 5pm - pass in priority after taking an appointment via Internet Mondays and Thursdays from 5 pm to 7 pm. The slogans: GAIN TIME! “In 2009, of our clients chose not to wait… WHAT ABOUT YOU?” 1) TIME SAVING SLOGANS

In this advertisement for a famous bank you can realise that time is running out as : “ It is time to offer new horizons to your savings” “There are concrete solutions to make the best of your money.” On the next page, only 5 minutes left! So: “Take a moment to examine an approach that makes money” and “ Why invest today ? ” Who could pretend that TIME is not MONEY? How should we interpret the woman’s expression: biting her lip and looking up? The second one seems to be already a bit richer… 1) TIME SAVING SLOGANS

This supermarket advert promotes « unbeatable prices » for a basket of fruit. Moreover the shop announces that it is “Open on Sunday mornings”. With a slightly mysterious and quite incomprehensible small print information underneath: “Timetables available in shops, except the Hannut and Perwez shops, open on Mondays from 9 am” (?) 1) TIME SAVING SLOGANS

Our time saving Post Office: 3 ways of saving time thanks to online shopping 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: 1) Buy stamps, envelopes, cards, etc. online: you will receive them the next day by post. 2) Reserve a take away from your home: you don’t have to spend time going to the Post Office. 3) Your personalised stamps will be sent directly to your home. 1) TIME SAVING SLOGANS
