Writing Review Basic Boot Camp for Your Writing Skills

Writing Review A good essay has 5 paragraphs. A good body paragraph has 5 sentences. Introduction and conclusion paragraphs have 3 –5 sentences each. Indent each paragraph. Always. Remember to use standard, formal, written English. This is not a text or an IM.

DO NOT DO IT !!!!!! NEVER,EVER BEGIN A PARAGRAPH WITH A QUESTION. IT IS JUST WRONG. IT IMPLYS THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU RE TALKING ABOUT AND YOU WANT YOUR READER TO TELL YOU INSTEAD OF YOU TELLING THEM.

Introductions Begin with a good grabber State topic and give a little more info about it. State three arguments, explanations, examples, or focus points. Your thesis needs to be solid enough to guide your thoughts through your whole essay. Try to place it last in your introduction.

Body Paragraphs In each paragraph, develop one of your thesis topics as fully as you can. Make sure you give plenty of support for your ideas. Only discuss one idea in each paragraph. Write about nothing else, or you are getting off topic!!

Body Paragraphs These paragraphs are very important. Make sure to support the broad statements you make and use lots of details! Each of these paragraphs must have an introduction and a conclusion sentence. Use lots of good vocabulary words and strong action verbs and adjectives. Use your senses to describe things.

Conclusions Restate your topic sentence in a different way than you originally put it. Try to draw a one- sentence conclusion that will wrap your ideas up. Never introduce new material in your conclusion. End with a thought that will make your reader remember your writing.
