PHASES OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING

Boost Phase The boost phase is also known as launching or initial phase. In this phase the confidence level or the will level of the student or counselee is gained or boosted.. Here we can give up an example of missile which is given below.

Boost Phase The boost phase of missile flight is also known as the launching phase or initial phase. It is during this period that the missile is boosted to flight speed. It lasts until the fuel supply of the booster bums up. For the medium-range (MR) missiles that use a dual-thrust rocket motor (DTRM), the booster propellant grain is consumed and bums out. For extended range (ER) missiles, the separate booster drops off at burnout. The boost phase is very important to the flight path of the missile. The launcher and missile are aimed in a specific direction by orders from the FCS computer. This aiming establishes the line of sight (trajectory or flight path) the missile must fly along during the initial phase. At the end of boost, the missile must be at a calculated point. Some missiles are guided during boost; others are n

Mid Course The second or midcourse phase of guidance is often the longest in both distance and time. During midcourse (or cruise) guidance, the missile makes any corrections necessary to stay on the desired course.

Terminal Phase Terminal Phase The terminal phase of guidance brings the missile into contact or close proximity with the target. The last phase of guidance must have quick response to ensure a high degree of accuracy. Quite often the guidance system causes the missile to perform what is best described as an "up-and-over" maneuver during the terminal phase. Essentially, the missile flies higher than the target and descends on it at intercept. We will now discuss the various types of guidance systems and how they direct the missile to the target. The four main categories are (1) command, (2) homing, (3) composite, and (4) self-contained.

Phases Of Counselling Effective leaders use the four stage counseling process Effective leaders use the counseling process. It consists of four stages: Identify the need for counseling. Prepare for counseling. Conduct counseling. Follow up.

Identify the need for counselling Quite often organizational policies, such as counseling associated with an evaluation or counseling required by the command, focus a counseling session. However, you may conduct developmental counseling whenever the need arises for focused, two-way communication aimed at subordinate development. Developing subordinates consists of observing the subordinate's performance, comparing it to the standard, and then providing feedback to the subordinate in the form of counseling.

Prepare For Counselling Successful counseling requires preparation. To prepare for counseling, do the following: Select a suitable place. Schedule the time. Notify the subordinate well in advance. Organize information. Outline the counseling session components. Plan your counseling strategy. Establish the right atmosphere.

Counducting The Counselling Session Be flexible when conducting a counseling session. Often counseling for a specific incident occurs spontaneously as leaders encounter subordinates in their daily activities. Such counseling can occur in the field, motor pool, barracks-wherever subordinates perform their duties. Good leaders take advantage of naturally occurring events to provide subordinates with feedback. Even when you haven't prepared for formal counseling, you should address the four basic components of a counseling session. Their purpose is to guide effective counseling rather than mandate a series of rigid steps. Counseling sessions consist of: Opening the session. Discussing the issues. Developing the plan of action. Recording and closing the session.

Follow Up Leader's Responsibilities: The counseling process doesn't end with the counseling session. It continues through implementation of the plan of action and evaluation of results. After counseling, you must support subordinates as they implement their plans of action. Support may include teaching, coaching, or providing time and resources. You must observe and assess this process and possibly modify the plan to meet its goals. Appropriate measures after counseling include follow-up counseling, making referrals, informing the chain of command, and taking corrective measures. Assess the Plan of Action: The purpose of counseling is to develop subordinates who are better able to achieve personal, professional, and organizational goals. During the assessment, review the plan of action with the subordinate to determine if the desired results were achieved. You and the subordinate should determine the date for this assessment during the initial counseling session. The assessment of the plan of action provides useful information for future follow-up counseling sessions.
