 The purpose of this session to provide guidance on the process of defining what data are critical to making decisions to improve student achievement and determining how to mine and use the data that ultimately strengthens instructional practices.

By the end of this session, participants will have:  Guidance on how to create a plan for collecting and using data.  Examples of templates that can assist in the planning process for collecting and using data.  Time to locate, review and analyze data specific to their school.

 Think through what data are needed to understand student achievement trends and patterns  Inform PLTs and departmental meeting topics and discussions

 Data Owner/Point of Contact: list the name or group responsible for maintaining the data  Data User: name or group who will be using the data  Intended Use(s): describe how the data will be used specifically to impact student achievement Source: Template 1b

Templates 2 and 2a

 Use both of the templates to begin a data collection plan  Use Quickr to locate, analyze and summarize a data element of your choice  What did you find?  Any surprises?
