In the Classroom

Responsibility and Independence It is our goal to help our students become responsible and independent citizens of our community. In order to do this we will need your help! –Encourage your child to tie his own shoes and zip his own coat. –Encourage and enforce responsibility and task management when it comes to homework. –Help them to learn their address and phone number in case of an emergency.

Citizenship and Behavior Management In our first grade classroom we will: –Be responsible –Be respectful –Be ready To keep you involved and informed I will send home a daily log. –In this you will find a chart in which your child will have colored in their “daily color” based on their behavior. See handout for explanations of each color. –You are to sign the daily log and return to school with your child.

Homework Homework can be expected 3-4 nights a week on a normal basis but should be no more than a hours worth of work. –I will do my best to have any homework for the following week posted online on Monday. Homework will usually be a review of the skills learned in class that day. If your child needs extra help or you have any questions feel free to . –You may also send your child in to class a few minutes early to receive extra help.

Rewards The school will be participating in the Reading Club once again. –A list of books is given to each student and the student is to read and do a book report over as many as they choose. 3 books = a small prize 7 books = a pizza party 10 books = Field Trip to the Festival Within the classroom Pizza Parties and Movie Days will be awarded when appropriate. Individual students may receive a chance to enter a drawing when an act of great citizenship is noticed.
