Kakapo Facts  There is a National Kakapo Team.  The Kakapo is the World’s heaviest parrot.  The Kakapo chews food with its bill.  The Kakapo is the only flightless parrot.  Kakapo now survive on refuge islands.

Habitat/Niche  Kakapo made their homes in lowland forests, upland beeches, forests, and scrublands. Now most Kakapo survive on refuge islands.  The Kakapo make nests in trees in the forests.  Biotic factors-trees, predators, scrub  Abiotic factors-sand, temperature, water, sun

Diet  Seeds, roots, leaves, stems, nectar, and fungi.  1 st level consumer.

Predators/Prey  Polynesian dogs  Cats  Rats  Stoats  The Kakapo is a herbivore.

Adaptions  The Kakapo has mostly green plumage for camoflauge.

Reproduction/Gestation  Breeding occurs every 2-5 years  Breeding season: December to April

Threats  New Zealand settlers hunted for meat and feathers.  Introduction of invasive species.
