The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Resources and Preparation Before the session you will need: An environment where students feel safe sharing their ideas. Seating plans where students can work collaboratively. This PowerPoint displayed on the Interactive board (starting from slide 2). Teacher Notes

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Tribes Everyone is different. See if your table can answer these two questions: 1) Why do bullies pick on people for being different? 2) Why do bullies usually hang around in gangs?

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Full of Fear Have you ever been bullied, or even bullied someone? Remember – the two tribal rules are: 1)Be part of the tribe 2) Keep the tribe together Think about a time when bullying has occurred and try to identify what the bully was scared of.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools What should I do? Here are a few scenarios. You are to use: “Speak for My Team” Decide on the advice you would give to someone experiencing this.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools

Scenario 1 Peter came to an academy Pathway Review Day and decided he wants to go to college and become a plumber. The academy found a place for him, and are working with him to get the qualifications he needs; if he does well he could also get an apprenticeship straight from college. Peter’s friends have started treating him differently and make fun of him for staying behind at enrichment classes. Why is this and what advice would you give Peter?

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Scenario 2 Jane has started receiving horrible messages on Facebook and other social network groups. She was always very confident, with lots of friends who describe her as great fun to be with. Jane doesn’t know who is sending these messages, and has started to fall out with her friends, accusing some of them. She is losing all her confidence and always looks miserable now. Why do you think a bully did this? What advice would you give her?

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools Scenario 3 Tom has started to be mean to people. He doesn’t want to be this mean, but lately he can’t stop himself. He sometimes says really horrible things to people and he’s gaining a reputation of being a bully. Afterwards he wishes that he hadn’t done these things, and doesn’t even know why he does them. Can you help him?

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools If you have time Create your own scenario for another table to solve.
