TEACHING PRONUNCIATION THE HISTORY AND SCOPE OF PRONUNCIATION TEACHING: Analysis. Main approaches: in the field of modern language teaching there are two main approaches to teaching pronunciation.

1- Intuitive-Imitate Approach. 2- Analytic linguistic Approach. 1) Intutive-Imitative approach: learner´s ability good models No information 2) Analytic- Linguistic Approach Phonetic Alphabet Articulatory descriptions Vocal Apparatus

DIRECT METOD: (1800s-1900s) Pronunciation  intuition and imitation THE REFORM MOVEMENT: (1890s) International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)  Phonetis as a science dedicating to describing and analyzing the sound system of languages. IPA  one to one relationship between a written symbol and the sound it represented.

Some other approaches emerged from the Reform Movement: - Audiolingualism - Oral approach Repetition and imitation. + Transcription of phonetic sounds by IPA chart system. 1960s  Cognitive Approach 1970s  The Silent Way and Community language learning.
