Technology in Business Why do businesses improve technology systems? All images drawn by Christopher Ashwood

Organisations may choose to improve technology systems. Why? To improve performance of the current system (often replacing worn out or out-of-date parts)

Cut costs Communicating with others –Getting people together costs money –Telephone conversations cost money -Can now be done electronically using a computer and a webcam -Often free!

New technologies become available that are faster, cheaper or more efficient Taking advantage of better technologies

How to organisations decide what to do? Carry out an investigation –Decide how much money they have to spend –Look at how things are done (eg. How does an invoice get recorded?) –Talk to staff –Sometimes talk to customers or suppliers –Agree on the solution
