General Touch all papers Friday Start with high scores When it gets difficult, switch to low scores Most time is spent in the middle

Process SC clicks paper links SC announces submission number, title, authors, institutions SC asks immediately and loudly: “Any conflicts?” Wait for conflicts (incl SVs) to leave, then SC clicks “show more…” – 1AC: Don’t shuffle papers around or otherwise look 1AC-like yet! 1AC quickly summarizes (60 seconds max) – Paper or note – Contributions – General state of reviews/rebuttal If 2AC has additional perspective to add, also summarizes his/her perspective (also 60 seconds max) If very-high-scoring paper with no 2AC review or 1AC and 2AC agree – Ask about BP/PBP/HM, check appropriate combo – Then move on… – ACs always can ask questions, but keep things moving – Other ACs shouldn’t really be getting hung up on accepted papers If 1AC and 2AC disagree, discussion ensues (more later)… If accepted and appropriate, SC asks about BP, check appropriate box SC enters ‘A’, ‘R’, or ‘T’ (table) into PCS

Process Prolonged discussion: table it (‘T’) and assign a 3AC – Revisit later in the day or Saturday High-ranking rejects need a clear justification, often a 3AC – If 1AC pink, think – If 2AC pink, think hard – If 2AC is the primary basis for rejection, SCs will let us know Resurrection – A rejected paper can be brought back – ACs should leave a paper number with you on a post-it to revisit discussion

Confidentiality All submissions and discussion are confidential Don’t mention other papers during discussion Find quiet areas to discuss papers outside of the room Don’t talk about your own submissions Do not use social media… at all… please… – Don’t even push the gray area by posting “I’m so happy to be at the PC meeting!” – Some non-paper-specific but very unprofessional posts have gone out because people pushed the gray area – Scold your colleagues if they post Decisions will be released on Monday, reviews on Wednesday – Don’t publicly discuss your own results before then

Vibe Discuss contributions first, flaws as necessary – 1ACs set precedent in your summaries Use rebuttal quotes liberally – This is the authors’ way of speaking to the PC Discuss as if the author can (anonymously) hear you

Odds and Ends Be good WiFi citizens! Don’t stream media not related to the PC meeting, and in general don’t stream videos to your machine unless it’s critical (OK to ask your SCs to show a video if it’s important for discussion). If you need to print something (e.g. a cover sheet), mail your SCs, who will mail the SVs.
