Presentation transcript:

Transport issues Reliability Capacity Destinations Sumner Road –route 63 to City –nothing direct to West End  Southampton Way/Wells Way –nothing at all to Central London  Change buses or bus-to-tube = time and inconvenience = pay again 

“Wells Way Triangle” City West End “Evolution Quarter” Access to rail services Red dot = rail, tube or DLR station

Cross River Tram Tram scheme recognised poor quality of transport links in this area Cross River Tram killed off by Boris Johnson in 2008

Alternatives to tram - TfL Slight increase in 343 frequency (bus every 5-6 minutes, instead of every 6-7 minutes), in peak hours No other proposals to improve transport in Southampton Way/Wells Way or North Peckham No proposals to improve links to Central London

What has EQRA done? Made detailed submissions to TfL (can be downloaded from EQRA website) Ongoing correspondence with the Mayor Using Freedom of Information to get detailed figures from TfL Where appropriate, challenging TfL’s figures! Represented at Southwark Public Transport Consultative Forum Gained support of London Assembly Members Val Shawcross (Labour) and Caroline Pidgeon (Liberal Democrat) both tabling questions to the Mayor on our behalf Meeting with TfL in January 2011 at City Hall, convened by Val Shawcross and Caroline Pidgeon

What are we focussing on? Top priority – Southampton Way/Wells Way –Second bus route –Direct link into Central London –Note possibility of slight reduction in 343 Next priority – overcrowding on 63 –Highlighting crowding to TfL

Ideas put to TfL

Next steps Follow up meeting at City Hall in May 2011 Continuing to lobby TfL Continuing to put pressure on the Mayor Continuing to gather evidence –Researching facts and figures –Personal observations Opportunities to work alongside other local RAs

How can you help? Complain to London Buses – (08:00-20:00 Monday to Friday) – –also let WWTRA or EQRA know –Specific incidents long wait/bus full –General issues Inconvenient journey Journey time

And finally… A small success story New signs in At about 140 bus stops in Southwark Nothing planned for Southampton Way or North Peckham area  EQRA recommendations Plans changed –Sedgmoor Place –Cottage Green
