Smalltooth Sawfish Binomial Nomenclature: Pristis Pectinata Status: Critically Endangered Diet: They eat crustaceans such as crabs Predator: It is eaten by sharks on a normal bases but only when it is young Consumer level: It is a 2 nd & 3 rd level consumer because it eats Crustaceans that eat plants and other consumers. Numbers: There is about 270 to 505 left in the wild that are known
Human threats Smalltooth Sawfish are overfished Smalltooth Sawfish are accidently caught in nets and injured Smalltooth Sawfish can also be harmed by causes such as oil spills
Habitat/Niche Smalltooth Sawfish can live in salt and fresh water Smalltooth Sawfish generally live in shallow water But can cross deep water to get to a new area
Interesting Facts 1. It’s mouth is shaped like the edge of a saw 2. It has wing shaped pectoral fins 3. It has a flattened shark shaped body 4. It has between 25 to 32 pairs of teeth 5. It’s mouth is on it’s underside on has 12 rows of teeth on both jaws.

Butterfly Species My species is a butterfly species because it is important for keeping crustacean populations from growing to high. Also if they died off sharks would lose a source of food. Also humans would not be able to hunt them any more. Humans would not be able to use their oils any more. And this is why I think Smalltooth Sawfish are a butterfly species.
