Using Illustrations and Graphics Word Lesson 8

Essential Question  How do you insert and format images, shapes, SmartArt and use Word tools and options to make text graphically interesting?

Inserting and Formatting Pictures  Pictures can be formatted in Word.  There are Picture Tools to use to format pictures.  Pictures can be inserted from flash drives; online; and SmartArt.  You can insert any of those objects using commands found on the Illustrations group of the Insert tab.  You do not open an image from Backstage from their flash drive.  Once a picture has been inserted, the Format ribbon appears under the Picture Tools tab.  There are various types of editing that you can perform from the Picture Tools Ribbon including cropping, resizing, scaling, and rotating.  Once a picture has been inserted into a document, you can be cut, copied, and pasted just the same as text. o Crop:The process of trimming the horizontal or vertical edges of a picture to get rid of unwanted areas. o Scale:The process of increasing or decreasing an original picture’s height and width by the same percentage.

 You can format pictures by applying a Quick Style from the Picture Styles group on the Format ribbon.  You can also choose to add individual options, such as borders with a specific color, width, and line style.  The Picture Tools contains commands where you can adjust a picture’s corrections (sharpen/soften the image and adjust the brightness and contrast to the image), color (color saturation, color tone or recolor the image), and add artistic effects to the image.  These tools can be used to improve a picture’s appearance.  A picture can be easily converted to a SmartArt graphic with a caption.  In Word there is a feature in removing portions of a background from an image.

Wrap Text  Word provides options for allowing text to position around an inserted object or move along with it. o With the picture selected, select Wrap Text in the Arrange group on the Format tab. o Click Layout Options and use the options available in the Layout dialog box.  Also the Layout Options Icon will appear right of the picture for instant choice of popular text wraps  Floating Object:An image or other object positioned precisely on the page, allowing the text to wrap around it in one of several available formats. Compare to inline object.  Inline Object: An image or other object that moves along with the text that surrounds it. Compare to floating object.

Screen Shot and Screen Clippings  Another feature is inserting screenshots or screen clippings.  Screenshot:An image capture of the entire current display on your computer screen  Screen Clippings:An image capture of only a part of your computer screen that you have selected.  You will need the Word Document you are working on and the open window that you want the screen shot or the screen clipping to come from. For easier use it is best to close other windows applications that may be open.

Shapes  Shapes can be added to Word documents.  Shapes:Figures such as lines, rectangles, block arrows, equation shapes, flowcharts, stars and banners, and callouts that you can add to your document or drawing campus.  The Various shape categories available to draw out on the Microsoft Word document.: o Recently Used Shapes o Lines o Rectangles o Basic Shapes o Block Arrows o Equation Shapes o Flow Chart o Stars and Banners o Callouts  You can change a shape’s appearance using commands found on the Format ribbon under the Drawing Tools tab.  It is easier to work with any shape by first clicking the New Drawing Canvas option at the bottom of the Shapes menu. o Drawing Canvas:Is a frame-like boundary that keeps multiple drawing objects together.

WordArt  The WordArt feature adds decorative text to characters.  There are a number of WordArt styles.  To insert WordArt click the WordArt command in the Text group on the Insert Ribbon.  You can transform the text to give it a different visual effect as well as to change text’s formatting.  The design of WordArt can also be edited by choosing the WordArt and using the commands that are located on the Drawing Tools Format Ribbon.

SmartArt  There are several types of SmartArt with many different categories to choose from with an option for a caption. o Smart Art graphics: Graphical illustrations available within Word from a list of various categories, including List diagrams, Process diagrams, Cycle diagrams, Hierarchy diagrams, Relationship diagram, Matrix diagrams, and Pyramid diagrams. o Caption: A few descriptive words providing readers with information regarding a figure, table, or equation.  You can customize SmartArt using the Text pane and the SmartArt tools.

Clip Art  Clip Art is now located in the Online Pictures command.  Clip Art:A collection of media files available to insert in Microsoft Office documents that can include illustrations, photographs, video, or audio content.  When you choose the Online Picture command, the new Insert Pictures box appears with options to select from Office.com, Bing, or from your SkyDrive account.  You can organize objects using the Microsoft Clip Organizer.

Embedded Object vs. Linked Object  Embedded Object:A picture or other object inserted into a document that becomes part of the document. Compare to linked object.  Linked Object:A picture or other object inserted into a document by creating a connection between the document and picture file but not combining them in the same file. Compare to embedded object.

Compress Pictures  Pictures can be compressed and they can be reset. o Compress:Reduces the size of an object.  With the picture selected, on the Format tab, choose Compress Pictures from the Adjust group.  You will not see the compression taking place, but instead you must compare a document’s properties before and after to verify that compression has taken place.

Resetting Pictures  You can undo changes made to a picture’s contrast, color, and brightness using the Reset Picture command found in the Adjust group of the Format tab. o Resetting: Discards all the formatting changes that you made to a picture, including changes to contrast, color, brightness, and style.
