 How do you multiply fractions and fractions?  This should be something we already know, so let’s review.  We multiply each number straight across.

 A mixed number is a number that consists of an integer and a fraction, such as  An improper fraction is a fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator, such as We multiply the denominator by the integer, which gives us 15. We then add the product to the numerator, which gives us 16.

 Here is a video that shows us how to use the information from the previous slide to multiply mixed numbers. Here

 One of the first steps in dividing fractions is finding the reciprocal of the second fraction  Finding a reciprocal is essentially flipping the fraction, meaning we switch the location of the numerator and denominator  This is because a fraction multiplied by its reciprocal must equal one 12 1

 To divide fractions you must take the reciprocal of the second fraction and multiply it by the first  The final step is to simplify

 Using all of the information in the past few slides we can divide a mixed number  1) We must find the fraction that comes from the mixed number  2) We must then invert the second fraction and multiply it by the first  3) Simplify  Here is a video that shows us how to do this. Here
