HOMOPHONES! Words that sound the same, but have different meanings AND spelling.

There, their, and they’re These words are easily confused, but they have very different meanings, and clearly different spelling! There: in, at, or to that place or position. Think location! Their: belonging to; implies possesion They’re: A contraction for “they are”

Their -- examples Where is their homework? The runners are doing their exercises. There are their pencils! If I have , what is their sum? They just can’t make up their minds! They are riding their bicycles. Their cat is very fat.

They’re -- examples They’re going to the mall. They’re out buying bagels for breakfast. King Carlos and King Ryan are in charge of Moona and Mischa. They’re so excited! I saw that they’re reading silently and following directions. My dogs love eating food we drop on the floor. They’re looking forward to Thanksgiving!

There-- examples What are you doing under there, Michael? There are the giraffes! “Where is my pencil?!” “It’s right there!” There is nothing better than Ms. Costakis’ class! There is no excuse for not turning in your homework when you have it done! “There, there, it’ll be okay!” said Ms. Costakis

Your and You’re These two words sound the same, but they have different meanings and spelling! Your: belonging to or associated with any person in general; implies possession You’re: contraction for “you are”
