WEATHER VS CLIMATE Climate is temperature, and precipitation over a long period of time. These are the four climates zones: tropical, temperate, desert, and polar. Weather is heat, air pressure, winds, and moisture. Weather can be anything like a hurricane or a tornado..

Tropical Climate Zone This zone is mostly found between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Tropical climates receive a lot of sunlight, rain, and are very warm.

Temperate Climate Zone The weather is never too extreme there. Many plants and animals species grow well in these moderate conditions.

Desert Climate Zone Some desert’s air is so hot that when rain does fall it can evaporate even before it reaches the ground. Some deserts are hot, dry, sandy, and windy. There are often no clouds and it does not receive much rain.

Polar Climate Zone Polar climate zones are the coldest place on earth. It gets less sun and when it’s winter It is dark for 6 months straight.

Types of Precipitation Snow Snow never melts on its way down. Stratus clouds can form rain or snow.

Types of Precipitation Sleet Sleet is snow that melts then it refreezes into sleet as it travels through cold air. Sleet is a form of wintry precipitation.

Types of Precipitation Rain As snow leaves the clouds it falls into warm air and melts into rain. Dark clouds can carry a lot of water that turns into rain.

Extreme Weather HURRICANES Hurricanes start when warm,moist air form the ocean surface begins to rise rapidly. Hurricanes can be as large as 600 miles across. Hurricanes can damage people’s property. Hurricanes winds rush at speeds of more than 73 miles per hour.

Extreme Weather Lightning Lightning forms when ice crystals in the clouds rub together. Every second of every day more than a hundred lightning bolts strikes the earth. Lighting bolts travel at lighting speed of up to sixty thousand miles per second.

Extreme Weather Tornados Tornados happen when cold air squishes through the warm air. One tornado killed over 348 people and went as fast as 300 miles per hour!

Extreme Weather Droughts A drought is when there is not a lot of rain for long periods of time! Droughts are caused by many different forces-the wind, the land itself, and even the ocean. There are two types of droughts one is the contingent drought and the permanent drought.
