My learning file “It keeps track of what is happening in my work. There’s loads of stuff like the record of meetings, levels, overview of reading, writing, maths. It keeps track of you and let’s the teacher see what needs to be taught.” (Boy - Year 6)

How do you know?  What ideas do you have to improve meetings or learning files to help you in your learning?

What the children said : The meeting  “We talked about all the things I am good at.” “ We talked about my letters and sounds, being a good listener, being kind and being a good sharer.”( FS 2 )  “My targets and how I could get better.” ( Year 1 )  “ How I can improve my writing and my listening.” ( Year 2 )  “ Improving my writing and my targets.” (Year 3)  My levels and what they mean in reading, writing and maths and what my next steps should be.” ( Year 4)  “We talked about a recent piece of work, what was good about it and what I needed to do to make it better.”( Year 5)  “For Maths we discussed how I was doing and what I did well. For Literacy we discussed our Golden Write, what the level was, what I did well and what needs to be improved. You can discuss your feelings about your work and I like that.” (Year 6)

Did the meeting help you? All said “Yes!”  “ I have no reds or yellows. I was all green and blue. That means I am good.”( FS 2)  She helped me get better. It was good having a chat on my own.” (Year 1)  “It helped me see how far I have got on in my reading and writing.” (Year 2)  “It helped me know my target. I liked speaking on my own to my teacher.” (Year 3)  “I liked talking to my teacher by myself because she helped me think about my work.” (Year 4)  “It helps me because I am encouraged to do more writing and get better.” ( Year 5)  “It helps your learning because you find out how to improve.” (Year 6.)

 “Yes, it tells me about my behaviour and things I am really, really good at! “ (FS2)  “Yes, I like to write things inside it. Key Findings :  Every child valued the files and felt a sense of ownership and pride.  Every child found the learning files useful.  Children from FS-Year 6 were able to talk about their learning and what they had to do to improve. They knew what they were good at.  Children suggested how the files could be used more in class!
