Absolutism Absolute monarch: king or queen holds all power within their state’s boundaries. Their goal is to control every aspect of society. They believed in divine right: God created the monarchy and the monarch acts as God’s representative on Earth. They are accountable only to God, not his or her subjects.
Causes of Absolutism Decline of feudalism and growth of national kingdoms (remember the crusades…??? ) Rise of towns and middle class (MC) – Why would the MC support monarchs? Colonization (why/how?) Decline of Church authority (why/how?) Warfare (why/how?)
