Lesson 9.6 Topic/ Objective: To solve non linear systems of equations. EQ: How do you find the point of intersection between two equations when one is quadratic? Graphing

Solve the system by graphing. y = x – 1 xy The point of intersection is at (1,0) and (6,5)

Solve by substitution : Rewrite the top equation by replacing y with -5x x +5x X = 4 and -4 Replace x with 4 and -4 to solve for y y = - 5x + 9 (4, -11) and (-4, 29)

Solve by Elimination Line up like terms in columns and multiply one of the equations by -1 X = 2 and - 2 Replace 2 and -2 for x into the equation y = 2x – 1 Solutions (2, 3) and (-2, -5)
