Earthquakes Earthquakes are the shaking and rolling of sudden shock of the earth’s surface. The west coast is the most risk of having earthquakes. An earthquakes can last as long as one minute. There are about 20 plates in the earth surface that are always moving slowly past each other. If they squeeze or stretch they can cause an earthquake. A fault is when little rocks pass each another and cause a crack in the surface. When an earthquake happens on the ocean floor the wave builds up and moves forward and becomes a Tsunami which creates a huge wave and hits land. Earthquakes are dangerous and cause a lot of damage and it can destroy houses, buildings, city’s and many other things.

Hurricanes A hurricane is a huge storm which can move 75 to 200 miles per hour. A hurricane can last about a week. A hurricane will form when the water is 80 degrees Fahrenheit and when the air cools off very quickly the higher you go. During a hurricane it will cause floods, destroy trees and buildings. When a hurricane is close to a beach with buildings and houses, the waves get big and can move them and causes a lot of damage to beach property. A hurricane is so dangerous that you have to stay in doors because of the strong winds.

Thunderstorms Thunderstorms produce from a special cloud. A thunderstorm is caused by moisture, unstable air, and lift. You need moisture to form clouds and rain. You need unstable air that is very warm and rises rapidly. Finally you need lift which can form from fronts, sea breezes, and mountains. Thunderstorms can occur year-round and at all hours. There are around 1,800 thunderstorms that occur across our planet every day. Thunderstorms are dangerous because most days thunderstorms produces lightning, which kills more people each year. Thunder is mostly made by bolts of lightning most people see dark clouds. If you see one that means lightning could be coming. But, the best thing to do is listen for the thunder. Those are all the facts about thunderstorms.

Tornadoes A Tornado is a spinning cloud that has a wind speed up to 300mph. Microburst has a wind speed up to 150mph. The largest hailstone during a Tornado can be up to 8inches wide and two pounds. A Super cell storm causes big Tornadoes. There can be up to 1,000 Tornadoes a year in the United States. A Waterspout is a Tornado that is over the ocean. Most Tornadoes form Thunderstorms. Houses can be blown away during a Tornado. A Tornado is a dangerous storm.

Volcanoes Volcanoes are dangerous. A volcano will erupt when the plates move in the earth. When volcanoes erupts a rock forms. Magma is the lava from a volcano. Lava is a liquid that is in a rock. Mount St. Helen had a very bad eruption it caused $1.5 billion of damage. Magma is very hot, it takes a long time to cool. Maunalo is the largest active volcano in Hawaii. If you live near a volcanoes you need lot of can food and water. A person should prepare for Lahar and flashfloods. A lahar is mudflow. When magma stacks higher it goes into villages. And that is all about volcanoes.

Winter Storms A snow storm is a blizzard that is a long- lasting snowstorm. Cold air from Canada will move south into the United States. First the wind temperature will be between-15 degrees Fahrenheit to -25 degrees Fahrenheit or lower because of the cold air from Canada and it will change the air temperature. Heart attacks from shoveling can cause death from cold air. If your car gets stuck stay in your car and use maps and car mats to keep warm. If your car gets stuck stay with your car unless help is nearby. Many things get their colors (blue red and yellow) from absorbing light. Snow is white because light reflects off of the light. Thunder snow with thunder and lighting is dangerous because it will hurt you. An ice storm will result in the accumulation of at least 0.25-inchs. Ice storms will form when a layer of cold air above and below a layer of warm air. That is the winter storm information.
