Service Learning Spring 2005 Laura Nicole Cortese
Why Community Service is Important Great way to meet new people Helping those who are less fortunate and the community as a whole People come together and work for a great cause
Community Service I have Done CAR WASH The car wash was held in favor of an injured soldier, John Thompson in Iraq. It took place on April 23, 2005 from 9am-probably around 3pm. I enjoyed this because I like to wash cars and the cause was great. I also would like to help the soldiers in Iraq in anyway that I can, so this made me feel like I was doing something in their honor. 2 DAYS of FUN!! My counselor at my old high school, who is more like a second mother, has a beautiful son named Corbin. Corbin is blind and mentally disabled, and has one of the kindest spirits I have ever known. I watched him for two days during my Spring break, and it was a blast.
My Day at the Car Wash I rode with Marilee, and that is us washing our first car!!
Car Wash Continued… This is me again, washing the car by myself…how fun!!
Car Wash One More Time… We raised over $300 that day. For more information about the injured soldier, you can go to
2 Days of FUN!!! During my Spring Break, I went home to Decatur and I watched my high school counselor’s son, Corbin, for 2 whole days. Corbin is blind and has some disabilities, but is so much fun to be around. Those two days were a blast!! This picture is of me, Camerin (sister), Corbin, and Beth. Together, we all went to eat.
Conclusion Community service is a wonderful thing to do- for others and yourself. It is helpful and a great learning experience. It makes me feel good inside to know that I am helping those who are less fortunate than me. I am glad we had to do service learning in this class, and I will continue to work in our community.
