1. Introduction to PV CYCLE Who We Are: Founded in July 2007 by PV manufacturers Established and staffed office in Brussels in April 2008 Today representing more than 85% of European PV market

Map End-of-Life (EoL) PV modules: -Discarded by the end user -Transport / installation damage -Guarantee/Warranty cases Organize and Stimulate their collection and recycling Implement the extended producer responsibility Take-Back and Recycling of EoL modules in EU + EFTA Becoming operational in 2010 Environmental Agreement with the European Union 1. Introduction - Mission Introduction - Objectives

“The industry is strongly committed to act today ahead of the first large scale series of end-of-life modules” Karsten Wambach, PV CYCLE President PV Cycle take-back and recycling programme First PV installations Early years of clean & renewable energy Full scale end of life recycling as of Offering a truly sustainable energy solution today to help prevent climate change tomorrow 1. Introduction to PV CYCLE - Ahead of time

Created in the second half of Objectives: - Raise the level of understanding of the role that the PV sector plays in positively contributing to sustainable development’s 3 pillars: environmental, economic and social. - Help enable industry wide collaboration and communication between the PV sector and external stakeholders such as the EU press corps, public policy makers, NGOs think tanks and civil society in general, in order to further enhance the growth and the reputation of the PV industry in Europe. - Establish ways and methods (e.g via identification of supportive public policy tools) so that on particular issue areas, win-win-win scenarios between the three pillars of sustainable development can be enhanced. 2. Sustainability Working EPIA

Based on the priorities for the year 2010, the following sub- activities have been chosen: 1.Management of hazardous substances in PV manufacturing and use 2. Health and safety: Identify threats for the PV industry 3. PV fire safety 4. PV environmental footprint 5. PV economic and social responsibility 2. Sustainability Working EPIA

Outline 1.Introduction to PV CYCLE 2.Sustainability Working EPIA 3.IEA-PVPS Taskforce 12 4.Does Photovoltaics ZeroWIN ? 5.Questions ?

The International Energy Agency Photovoltaic Power Systems Programm is one of the collaborative R&D Agreements established (in 1993) within the International Energy Agency. The mission of the IEA-PVPS programme is: "To enhance the international collaboration efforts which accelerate the development and deployment of photovoltaic solar energy as a significant and sustainable renewable energy option." It is divided into 12 individual research projects (Tasks), each covering a different topic. 3. IEA-PVPS Taskforce 12
