TODAY YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING: Writer’s Notebook Laptop (after I assign your groups ) PENCIL OR PEN & small handout from the front table ANY HOMEWORK NOT TURNED IN LAST WEEK (LATE): 3.2 – PROVERBS AND FOLK TALES – I will accept this for a late grade until 4:00 PM Tuesday! If you are having trouble accessing the google link and/or the videos, you may complete it in tutorials! Many of you have either NOT submitted this assignment OR done it incorrectly. Check Skyward today; if you do NOT have a grade for it, then you need to either do or redo it by tomorrow. Double Entry Journal (Chapters 1-4) Analytical Paragraph (Chapter 1 – if you were absent) LEARNING OBJECTIVES: We will identify, select, and cite research sources appropriately, so we can learn how to do a research paper/project. We will generate questions and research answers, so we can deepen our understanding of a novel.

Each group will be assigned ONE topic to research; all the materials that you need are available in the folder on your set of desks. These folders are CLASS sets! If you want your own copy of the article to work on outside of class time (or to annotate), I will give you one after I have finished giving instructions. THIS IS A TWO DAY ASSIGNMENT INCLUDING PRESENTATION! I have selected the groups carefully; no changes will be made to these groups. IF YOU ARE NOT WORKING AND/OR PARTICIPATING CORRECTLY IN YOUR GROUP, YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED A SEPARATE PROJECT TO COMPLETE ON YOUR OWN! Log into Canvas and into the assignment so that you can follow along while I give instructions. Group Leader: Choose your group leader carefully as he/she will be responsible for seeing that all the work is completed and submitted into Canvas on time. The Group Leader will receive up to 5 EXTRA POINTS on the major grade! The leader is also responsible to check that all the articles are returned neatly to the folder at the end of class (and that nothing has been written on the articles). DUE DATES: INCLUDING YOUR GROUP PRESENTATIONS: B DAY (END OF CLASS PERIOD ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13) A DAY (END OF CLASS PERIOD ON THURSDAY, APRIL 15)

DAY ONE: Look at your articles and divide up the responsibilities in your groups. Some articles are longer than others; there are some articles that you will NOT need to read completely but only need to read the portion that applies to your group’s assigned topic. You should use the handout to make notes to include in your google slide presentation. (NOTE: We only read Chapters 1-4, so change that on your sheet. However, if you have read ahead, feel free to use quotes from additional chapters to support your topics. Each of you will start at a 100 for your participation grade. I will be coming around to check how you are working and will remove 10 points each time you need to be redirected. Be sure that your FULL NAME is on your little sheet and that you turn it into me at the end of class. If not, you will receive a 0 for the daily participation grade. At the end of class, make a plan what you will need to accomplish next class period. DAY TWO: You will have ONE HOUR to finish your google slides; presentations will start promptly after that. If your group is NOT ready to present, you will lose points of the total grade. Listener Notes – You will be taking notes during the presentations and turning them in for a separate daily grade. You are expected to be an active and respectful audience.
