Types of Antipsychotic. Typical (Haldol, Chlorpromazine) Atypical (Clozapine, Olanzapine)

Typical 4 Example: Haldol, CPZ, Perphenazine, etc. 4 Work by unknown action thought to be non specific blocking of dopamine in the brain.

4 Main side effects: tardive dyskinesia, extrapyramidal reaction, sedation, constipation, dry mouth, akathesia,

Atypical 4 Examples: Clozapine, Olanzapine, Risperidone, Serequil 4 Work by an unknown action thought to be due to blocking of specific dopamine paths in the brain. They also involve other neurotransmitters to varying extents.

4 Main side effects: seizures, dry mouth, constipation, low blood pressure, effects on blood cells. Less chance of TD, EPS, akathesia, etc
