“Overture to William Tell” Presented in 1829 to a Paris audience. Rossini’s last dramatic work before he retired at age 39. Audience did not like it at first, thought it was too long and had boring sections. Based on a famous Swiss story about a character named William Tell. Who was forced to shoot an apple off of his son’s head. The plot was borrowed from an author names Schiller. Today a statue on Mr. Tell and his son stands in the village square at Atsdorf.
