Biography of our Queen Queen Elizabeth the Second was born on the 21 st April, 1926 at 2.40am.

Her sister, Princess Margret, was born 4 years later on August 21 st, This is her only sibling!

When she was 22, she married Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey. Her wedding dress was designed by Norman Hartnell.

The Queen Mother’s 100 th birthday. She got a telegram from her own daughter! On the 4 th August 2000, the Queen Mother celebrated her 100 th birthday.

World War 2  During WW2, the Queen trained as a mechanic and learned how to drive trucks.  The Queen remains the only female member of the royal family to have entered the armed forces.  She was known as Second Subaltern Elizabeth Windsor.  Buckingham Palace was bombed during World War 2.

The Commonwealth The Commonwealth is made out of 53 countries. The Queen is head of the Commonwealth and spends a great deal of time touring these countries.

One of the most memorable Jubilees’ was the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in Street parties took place all over the world. There was a parade of boats (called a flotilla) on the River Thames. Robbie Williams opened an amazing concert right outside Buckingham Palace!

 She’s the patron of the UK Girl Guides Association.  She can mend your car because she trained to be a mechanic during WW2.  During the 1981 trooping of the colours, someone fired a cap gun in order to startle her.  She paid for her wedding dress using ration coupons.  The Queen does not need a passport.  The Queen is allowed to vote, but traditionally does not.  She is a massive horse-racing fan.  There have been 12 Prime Ministers, 6 Popes and 12 U.S Presidents during her reign.
