Homelessne ss (Responses to the question: “What causes a person to choose to live on the streets?” ) By Stephanie Ugalde

Angel (Senior at UC High) “This one b**** chose to live in her van because of her job, and that life got in the way of her art.”

Bryan (Freshman at Morse High) “Depending on the age, it could be a variety of things, most commonly laziness, and bad decisions. Also, children generally leave their households because of some sort of problems in their living environment.”

Brittany (Senior in some school in the Bay Area) “Bad family situations or drug addictness thing… yeah.”

NiñoRey (Freshman at SDSU) “Causes? It’s their choice. It’s like asking ‘Why do you wear pants?’ when you can wear shorts or nothing at all.”

Jayjay (Senior at Morse High) “They made not soo wise deicisions in highschool, they did drugs, they were lazy, lack of money.”

Daunte (I think he graduated from Charter by now?) “Stupidity and foolish pride.”

Arlene (Senior at Morse High) “Well most likely nobody wants to live on the streets, but the reason why people do live on the streets is because they are either on drugs or because they can’t find a job and can’t take care of themselves.”

Josue (Sophomore at UC High) “Well... to me the reason will be cause of my life at home.”

Jester (Freshman at Morse High) “People don’t live on the streets, they’re just pretending.”

Octavia (Freshman at Southwestern College) “Umm... well there’s lots of reasons. Drugs, alcohol, and other addictions cause them to be broke and homeless. Also if they're poor and get into prostitution. And if they run away from foster homes or parents or abusive relationships they live on the streets cause they have nowhere else to go.”

Anthony (4 th grader at Bethune Elementary) “A person that doesn't finish High School.”
