Our Project Our class read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, by Eleanor Coerr. In the story they tell about the tradition of making 1,000 cranes to have a wish come true. We wanted to learn more, so we searched on the internet and found out about her memorial in Japan. One of the things we discovered was the International Day of Peace and the tradition of making 1,000 cranes to wish for peace. We are learning to take action locally first to make the world a better place, so we wanted to sponsor a Piney Point Peace Day. We made 1,000 paper cranes from reused paper and wrote the peace pledge. Then we invited the entire school to come and see the cranes and take the pledge. Our wish is that our school is a place of peace. Ms. Boyce’s 4 th graders
