Unbalanced Vane Pump …And How it Works

Main Components of a Vane Pump Method of Propulsion (pulley, gear, direct) Shaft connecting drive device to circular rotor An offset circular cylinder which the rotor spins in Vanes and their rotor slots Method of sealing vanes against outer cylinder wall

Pump Identification Simple to identify  Distinct Method of Operation Type of Vane Pump  There are several different types of vane pumps  This is an unbalanced vane pump due to the rotor being offset in the cylinder creating a “cam” effect  Unbalanced because the “cam” of the rotor inside the cylinder creates imposing side loads on the shaft caused by differences in pressure (forces unbalanced)

How it Works Fluid is brought into the intake due to vacuum forces applied by the vanes Vanes carry fluid from the inlet across the displaced area to the outlet Small amount of oil is returned to the pump and sent up the shaft and into the space behind the displaced vanes  This aides in keeping the vanes sealed against the cylinder wall  Vanes also use centrifugal force
