SUN CS & Resource Team: what's my role in our school’s SST? how can I start a meeting? and what do I do with it, anyway? Presented by Frances Hall, Cassie Sorensen-Mitchell and Hoa Nguyen Neighborhood House

SUN CS & Resource Team Workshop Presenter introductions Session goal(s) How would you define SST, SRT or BSC meetings? What do you want to learn at this session?

Ok – but what does all this mean? Working definitions… SST or SRT: Student Support Team or Student Resource Team – The purpose of this meeting is to get school staff and service providers together to discuss students, insure services are not duplicated, decide on and make necessary referrals, create plans for struggling students which include the school staff as well as support staff in the building. BSC: Building Screening Committee – The purpose of this meeting is to bring together a team that services ONE student. This should include community providers, teachers, and/or school staff whenever possible. One or two issues (generally behavioral or academic) are identified, discussed by the team, and a plan is created.

So who here works at a school that has a SST or SRT? Who has a BSC? Raise your hand if you participate in either group.

SUN CS & Resource Team Workshop Perspective from the School Attendance Effort Advocate at Sitton ES and George MS: - participant in SST meetings, working in collaboration with SUN CS Site Coordinators

What would an ideal SST meeting look like? What would your role be as the school’s SUN Site Manager? How could you help get an SST meeting started? What steps could you take to be included in the meeting? Choose one action and make a plan to do it this year! Describe your meeting: who is in charge? How often to you meet? What is the structure? How are ROI challenges in this group handled at your school? If you ran the meeting what would it be like? What would you change? What works? Choose one thing you’d change and make a plan to implement it this year. How do you conceptualize your role as a SUN Site Coordinator at SST? Nope we sure don’t (or I’m not invited)Yep, we totally do! Small group work questions

SUN CS & Resource Team Workshop What happened in your group? What will you take away from the session? What other factors (out of your control) are an important part of having a consistent SST meeting in your school? Any further questions or comments?
