Rube Goldberg Project 30 point project

What is a Rube Goldberg? a contraption, invention, device or apparatus that is deliberately over-engineered or overdone to perform a very simple task in a very complicated fashion a chain reaction.

Some Ideas Drop a marble down a paper towel tube so that it knocks over a chain of cereal boxes and batteries, too. Set up a pulley system using a piece of string, two plastic cups, a milk jug filled with water, and a weight such as a battery. Roll a piece of aluminum foil into a ball and tie a piece of string around it. Tie the other end of the string to a chair or other object. Pull the ball backward and release it so it bumps into a soup can. You can set up the soup can to roll into a chain of cereal boxes. Set a half-full water bottle near the edge of the table so that it pours into a funnel when the water bottle is knocked over. Place a plant underneath the funnel to create a watering mechanism.

What is your task!!! Step 1 Planning Design Step 2 Supplies & Construct Step 3 Analyze & Redesign Step 4 Present

Requirements!!!!  A minimum of 4 simple machines  Must complete 8 total steps  Include a written explanation of each step  Forces involved for movement  Energy transfers

What can you use?  Toy cars Golf Ball  Ping Pong Ball  Marble  Dominoes  Popsicle sticks  Plastic straws  Plastic utensils (forks, spoons, knives)  Rubber bands  String Styrofoam bowls  Q-tips  Masking tape  Toilet paper rolls and egg carton pieces  Lego’s  Lincoln Logs  Jenga Blocks  Other wooden blocks  Springs  Thread spools  Tinker toys
