Presentation transcript:

October 12 th ! I will assign you a partner. With this partner you will do five things. You will record them and turn them in for participation credit. Remember, as always, voice off. \|,,/ 1. Tell each other about your weekend. Write down what your partner did. 2. Practice all your vocabulary since 9/10. Fingerspell/sign them take turns. Write down the ones neither of you can remember. 3. Tell your partner your statistic you created from our class survey last class. Write YOUR PARTNER’s statistic down, not yours. 4. Tell the teacher something about your life as she circulates. I get such little time with you all!! Write down what you told her and how she reacted. 5. Turn in a paper with all your work.

Video Anaysis Add the following vocabulary to your vocabulary lists: SIM COM (simultaneous communication) AUDISM GALLAUDET SAME+TIME GONE (3) LESS/LESSENED

Copy or abbreviate the following questions. You will answer them in complete sentences once you’ve viewed the video a few times. 1. How old was the speaker when her/his teacher explained the difference between ASL and English? 2. What classifier is used to show a person being heavily impacted by information? 3. What were at least two fingerspelled words in the video? 4. How are ASL and English different? 5. What happens when these two languages are combined into Simmultaneous communication? 6. Sim Com video Sim Com video

Sharing an interesting fact 1. Broach the subject (bring up the topic) ( I heard, I saw on tv, I read, someone told me, etc.) Name the topic (raised eyebrows) Pose a rhetorical question. Explain. Ex. ME READ MAGAZINE. JAW DROP. IX (magazine) SAY KNOW MAN COAT, THMB-loc”back” (2h)LCL:B “slit” WHY? LONG-AGO MAN HORSE RIDE-HORSE, COAT LCL “unslitted coat” NOT COMFORTABLE. ICL “cut up” MORE COMFORTABLE.

Your turn. Sign this. My Spanish teacher told me that the word “napkin” used to be “apkin”, but because you use “an” before it, it changed over time from “an apkin” to “a napkin”.

Statistic activity I will pass your homework back. You need to complete it by getting information from your classmates. You may only get one statistic per person. That means you need to sign with 12 other people. Have fun!
