Introduction to Mahara  Mahara is an open source tool which was started in 2006  Mahara is a stand-alone system that can be integrated into a wider virtual learning framework.  Mahara is a personal learning environment which is used to communicate with different individuals and groups within a network to share files and views.  It helps to manage an e-portfolio in which we can save the personal information, resume and cover letter.  Also manages personal blogs and external feeds

How to log into Mahara? After we login into acseducation.edu.au with the username and password scroll down and click the ACS Portfolio on the bottom right hand corner.

Welcome Page of Mahara In the welcome page of Mahara you can see Home, Profile, My Portfolio, Groups, Settings and Logout options.

How to create a Group in Mahara You can create a group by clicking on the Groups and pressing the Create Group button

How others can join in a Group Select the group which you want to join and click the button Join this Group

How to manage Files  In Mahara we can upload and manage files.  Files may be pictures, Resumes, Cover letters and videos.  You can also create folders and manage files in appropriate folders.

How to manage Files To upload files into Mahara, you can select option Files

How to manage Files In order to create a Folder click Create Folder This screen will appear, and after filling in the details, click on Create Folder.

Using Mahara to Manage Blogs  You can create a blog and share your thoughts and ideas with other members and groups in Mahara environment.

How to create a Blog Click My portfolio and click the My Blogs option to create a Blog To create a Blog click here

Create a new Blog Fill in the details and click the Create Blog option to create a new blog After clicking the Add Blog option you can see this window

How to Manage the Blog In my portfolio select the My views and in the options click on Edit this view

What is an External Feed?  External feed is an information that comes from the outside of the website we are using.  This information may be a file on the web server or any URL on the internet.  you can view any information like News, Business, Sports depending upon what you added to your view space.  The next slide will show how we can add an external feed to your view.

How to manage External Feed In Groups select the Views and in the options click on Edit this view on an existing view.

How to manage External Feed After clicking Edit this view the page looks like this: Select the External Feed option and add to the block where you want to view the External Feed

How to add External Feed to your view After selecting the External Feed option the page look like this: Fill in the Block Title and the URL from which you want to get RSS feeds, then click on Save. You can find the RSS feeds from Google or yahoo. Just copy the URL and paste it in Feed Location You can Edit and Delete the block whenever you want.
