AUTOMATED POSTAL CENTER (APC) Pacific Area Finance Training February 2008

2 APC

3 What is an Automated Postal Center  Self-service mailing kiosks.  Designated to process 80% of retail transactions.  Normally handled by retail employees.  Handles non-cash transactions.  Accepts major credit and debit cards.

4 APC Accountability Consists of Two Types of Stock  Storage Repository Inventory - Back Office Storage.  Kiosk - Sheetlets in stamp cassette dispenser and reject bin.

5 Security Storage repository inventory  Secured in safe or vault.  Separate from the POS Unit Reserve Stock.  Access is limited to servicing employee only. Stock threshold  3 months of stamp stock sales.

6 Receiving and Shipping Stock Receive sheetlets from SDO  AIC 841, Stock Received, PS Form 1412 Processed. Load sheetlets to kiosk  Does not generate a PS Form 1412 entry; internal movement. Remove sheetlets from kiosk  Does not generate a PS Form 1412 entry; internal movement. Return sheetlets to SDO  AIC 848, Stock Returned, PS Form 1412 Processed.

7 APC – PS Form 1412  Maintains only 2 days of PS Form 1412 data.  PS Forms 1412 for previous days, dating back to the installation of the APC, are found on the APC website. 1.Click on APC revenue. 2.Select Pacific Area. 3.Select (appropriate) District. 4.Date(s) requesting printed PS Form 1412 information. 5.PS Form 1412 may be printed at anytime.

8 Refunds and Exchanges Policy  Establish a file folder to track all APC refunds.  File separate from all other daily documents.  Copy of the PS Form 3533 must be made for the APC refund document file.  Folder is intended as a tool for management analysis of refund activity.

9 Refunds and Exchanges (Cont.) Exchange of Stamps  No cash refunds.  Exchange for equivalent value stamps only.  PS Form 3533 completed. Postage Labels  Labels may not be reused, modified or cut.  Labels removed from letter/packages will not be accepted.  Exchanges will be at 100% of value.
