Modeling Percents SWBAT model percents on a grid and find fraction and percent equivalencies.

Warm Up On a separate sheet of paper (not in your notebook) -Write a thank you letter to one of the speakers from career day. Include something interesting they told you or something they inspired you to do.

Using percents… Most states charge sales tax on items you purchase. Sales tax is a percent of the item’s price. A percent is a ratio of a number to 100. You can remember that percent means “per hundred.” For example, 8% means “8 per hundred,” or “8 out of 100.”

Modeling Percent Use a 10-by-10-square grid to model 17%. A 10-by-10 square grid has 100 squares. 17% means “17 out of 100” or. Shade 17 squares out of 100 squares ___

Modeling Percents Use a 10-by-10-square grid to model 26%. A 10-by-10 square grid has 100 squares. 26% means “26 out of 100” or. Shade 26 squares out of 100 squares ___

How are ratios (fractions) and percents related?

How are can percents become fraction 25% So, 25% = ¼

4:5 = what percentage? How do ratios (fractions) become percents?

If you got a 3 out of 10 on the test, did you pass the test? How do you know?

If you scored a 75% on a test, what was your score? How many did you get right and how many did you get wrong?

On your own: Color your Percent Grid You must use between 4 and 6 colors Each small square represents.01 as a decimal Each small square represents 1/100 as a fraction Each small square represents 1% as a percent.
