On Thursday we went to Strudda Bank farm to watch how a real-life farm works! What a shame about sports day- lets hope it cheers up next week! Welcome Back! We have spent this week finishing our topic on ‘Keeping Healthy’ with Miss Bramley. She is leaving us today and starts her first teaching job in a few weeks time. We have enjoyed having her in Class 1 and wish her all the best. Next week we will begin our new topic on ‘Transport.’ What a start to the Summer half term! Once again no sports day because of the weather. Perhaps we should do it at Christmas! We have been busy making brochures about Beamish this week ready for our trip. Year 2 have been pond dipping. As we could not go and visit a pond we brought the pond to Thornhill in a bucket.

Olympic Torch meal and event We are all so excited about going to see the ‘real’ Olympic torch in Whitehaven- we cannot wait to wave our flags and cheer on team GB. Before the event we will be having a special ‘early’ dinner to get us in the mood. Our Olympic Themed meal will be available to packed lunch children at £2 but they will need to book in advance. The dinner is: Olympic Ring of Cumberland Sausage on Mount Olympus Mash served with carrot javelins and shot putt peas. This is followed by: space runner Olympic ices. Attendance Please remember that all holidays taken during school time will be classed as unauthorised absences. Too many of these may result in prosecution and will form part of your child’s school record. The link between school attendance and examination results is clear and it is the school duty to promote excellent attendance. Please ensure all days off school are necessary and unavoidable. If you wish to take your child on holiday you will need to request this in writing to the school office. Authorisation might be agreed if your child has had previous good attendance and/or there are exceptional circumstances. Please bear in mind that in many schools a doctor’s certificate is required for absences longer than 3 days, we may need to take this approach in future if the attendance of some pupils does not improve. Fundraising You have until next Friday to bring back sponsor forms and money from our half term sponsor event. Reception and Year 1 pupils were given a treasure hunt to complete. The older pupils were working through some anagrams. All pupils who raise money will receive a prize and the child who raises the most money will receive a special prize donated by friends of school. All money raised will go towards the courtyard refurbishment.
