Introduction Mary Hurlstone Progression Manager Hertfordshire Education and Skills Strategy

Aim for the morning To share models of best practice that meet Ofsted requirements Findings from Ofsted’s three-year survey of schools’ use of off-site alternative provision ve-provision-a-report-on-the-findings-from-the- first-year-of-a-three-year-surveywww.gov.uk/government/publications/alternati ve-provision-a-report-on-the-findings-from-the- first-year-of-a-three-year-survey. Hertfordshire Education and Skills Strategy

The Hertfordshire overview: the past Lead team – Education and Skills Strategy (reporting to Integrated Services for Learning) Framework Agreements (set up by the Commissioning Team) Funding allocated to Strategic Area Partnership Groups Annual reporting on the destinations and achievements of young people A published countywide Directory Delivery of joint training Hertfordshire Education and Skills Strategy

The Hertfordshire overview: the present Terms and conditions of service provision (including health and safety checks) Increase in range of providers - decrease in those active Decrease in students (reported to LA) on off-site programmes No additional funding to purchase provision Greater emphasis from Ofsted on quality and schools’ monitoring the provision Electronic Directory on Youth Connexions site Schools (and partnerships of schools) setting up own ‘Directories’ Hertfordshire Education and Skills Strategy

The Hertfordshire overview: present into future Schools and ESCs will take the lead on commissioning and quality assurance of independent alternative providers Ofsted will treat this as a priority and focus on the quality of teaching and learning No central directory compiled by the team Greater flexibility in the choice of providers in your local directory – not just those who are offering an introduction to sector specific training and employability skills So how do we move towards the future? Hertfordshire Education and Skills Strategy

Starting this morning... Look at the key messages from the Ofsted survey and recommendations Hear about two models that have already been developed and recognised nationally as best practice Share an idea for building a local directory Give you an opportunity to suggest the support and guidance you might need Hertfordshire Education and Skills Strategy
