Magna Carta comes from the “Alentejo” wine region from the single estate of the Enoport Group in this area – “Herdade da Machede”, Machede Estate (in the map bellow). MAGNA CARTA Machede Estate is located around 7 km away from Évora. The estate has around ha of area, of which 87 ha are planted with red varietal vineyards. The excellent micro climate and the quality of the soils of this «Lord Land» contribute to the production of excellent wines. Machede Estate is certified for the production of wines with the Alentejo DOC Appellation and Alentejo Regional Wine.
Grape varietals
The wines produced with this grape varietal are very stained, presents an intense red colour with violet nuances during youth. The intensity colour is always very persistent. The aromatic potential is very complex, with floral compounds, fruity and spices. The Syrah grape varietal originates wines very rich in tannins. SYRAH
A great noble red grape varietal of an extraordinary quality. It produces full-bodied wine and very aromatic. The grape aromas, thin and elegant, suggest pepper and wildflowers. It has good capacity and is indispensable in the development of Port wines of quality. ARAGÔNEZ
It’s also called “Tintureira" grape varietal (with red pulp), with round and large black berries. In Portugal gained notoriety for producing wines of very good quality, particularly in Alentejo region, where the "terroir“ (cold winters and hot and dry summers, deep soils with water availability all year) gives her the conditions necessary for its full development. This grape varietal produces wines of dense colour, slightly vegetal aromas, high concentration of tannins, good balance of acidity and great aging capacity. ALICANTE BOUSCHET
Designation Regional red wine Grapes Syrah (40%), AragonêsZ(40%), Alicante Bouschet (20%). Colour Defined garnet with abundant violet hues. Aroma Predominant aroma in red fruits jelly, ripe wild fruits, notes of toasted and “sweet” spices. Flavour Fruity, smooth, well-structured, harmonious and with an elegant ending. WinemakingTotal destemming, extended skin maceration and alcoholic fermentation at 82ºF. MaturationAged for 9 months in French oak barrels.
