Interested in donating clothes, cell phones or money to assist families affected by violence? Call: There’s not a minute to lose… October 2004 Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities

Why have a Domestic Violence Awareness Month? Because nearly one in four adult women experience rape and/or physical assault by a partner during her lifetime. (U.S. Department of Justice) Because the costs of intimate partner rape, physical assault, and stalking exceed $5.8 billion each year, nearly $4.1 billion of which is for direct medical and mental health care services. The total costs of intimate partner violence also include nearly $900 million in lost productivity from paid work (Centers for Disease Control, “Costs of Intimate Partner Violence Against Women in the United States,” April 2003). Because we can raise awareness and hope.

What’s going on? Daily news stories in the Arizona Republic Over 200 awareness packets mailed out to local employers A training forum for hospitality and retail employers Weekly presentations for the general public at area hospitals An education panel discussion at ASU West Domestic Violence Awareness Day and Proclamation Signing with Governor Napolitano
