Tegrity is software that allows instructors and students to create audio, video and screen recording capabilities and then upload the recordings to their Blackboard or viewed by other sites like Face book. The recordings can then be viewed at anytime.

Tegrity Instructors and students can record any type of material that appears on their computer screen such as lectures, speeches, and PowerPoint presentations. Tegrity also allows audio to be captured alone with images or simple audio recordings that can be created for your class.

I will demonstrate an example of Tegrity by creating directions on how to use Tegrity to capture video of my computer screen.

To begin, students and instructors will click on the Tegrity Campus tab at the top of the screen.

If a security information box appears, the student or instructor will need to click yes to continue.

If you have pop-ups block on your computer; you will have to right-click the pop up bar that appears at the top of screen and it will temporarily allow pop-ups or always allow pop-ups from this website. A box will appear and you will click yes. Once completed the following screen will appear:

This screen tells you which classes you are enrolled in Blackboard. The # of classes tells you how many recordings are available in each class The number that is located in parentheses at the end of each course title tells you how many videos have not been viewed. The last updated is when the recording was last changed with the latest date.

Recording To start recording, the student or instructor clicks on the class in which they want to record. In this instance, I am going to click on the first class which reads: Blackboard Instructor Support and the following screen will appear.

The student or instructor will click on the record button to start recording the session. They will need a webcam and microphone in order to record audio or video. But in this demonstration; I will be recording my computer screen.

Tegrity After clicking on the record, the following screen will appear. It will ask you to install the Tegrity software. A pop-up bar may appear and you have to click the bar and install the Active X. A box will then appear and you have to click on Install for the Tegrity software to begin installing.

Tegrity Software The following box will appear that will prepare and install the Tegrity software so that the instructor or student can create their audio or visual recording.

Tegrity The following box will appear on the screen after the software has been installed. It list the instructor or student’s name. The Blackboard course name (you can click on the drop down arrow to find which class you are creating the audio or visual recording) day, date, and time. You can insert a picture. If you insert a picture, another box appears that allows you to browse and select the picture and then click the button select and the picture will appear in the box. The next button allows you to test the audio. You will have to plug the microphone into the computer to test the audio settings. The settings button allows you to change the settings for the video. The next button allows the instructor or student to watch a tutorial if they have any questions.

Tegrity Recorder This is the box that will appear after a picture has been inserted. Then click the record button.

Tegrity Recorder The following box will appear that explains the use of Tegrity toolbar. The toolbar contains a pause, stop, and volume buttons. After learning how to use the toolbar; the instructor or student will click OK button. The toolbar appears in the taskbar.

Tegrity Recorder The following box will appear. Tegrity will begin to record what you do on your computer.

Tegrity Recorder After you have recorded what you want the viewer to see then you will click on the stop button located on the toolbar in the taskbar. The following box will appear.

Tegrity Recorder After stopping the video, the instructor or student are given the option to upload, preview, or delete the video. Then click the yes or no button.

Tegrity Recorder If you click on the preview radio button, the following box will appear. It will tell the instructor or student if the video has been recorded successfully or not. You click on the next statement “click here to preview” to preview the recording. If the instructor or student likes the video then it can be uploaded to Blackboard. If the instructor or student does not like the video it can be deleted. Then click on the OK button.

If the student decides to click and preview the video, the same pop-up tool bar that appeared earlier at the top of the screen will appear. The instructor or student will have to right click and click on the allowed block content and a security box will appear and must click “Yes” and this same action will have to be performed again so that the video will be displayed. The following box will appear.

Tegrity Player The video will load and begin to play.

You can preview the recording to see if it is okay or needs to be redone. After the instructor or student is finished, click on the close button (red x) to close the Tegrity player.

Tegrity Upload If the video is ready, then the instructor or student will then click the radio upload button to upload the video to Blackboard. Then click the OK button. The following box will appear:

Tegrity Recorder After this box appears; the student or instructor will click the OK button and video or audio will be uploaded later for the viewers to watch.

Tegrity If the student or instructor wants to watch the video they can go back to the recording page and click on the recording that they want to watch after publishing the video.

This is a tool that I think would be valuable to students and instructors while using Blackboard. The End
