Usage of ATLAS data in Masterclasses
Event - create an International Collaboration among students (together with U.S. partner QuarkNet) ~4 weeks period in March every year 117 (+30 from U.S. partner) institutes from 31 countries central organization at TU Dresden: Michael Kobel and Uta Bilow Website:
Usage of ATLAS data in Masterclasses students work in pairs in front of computers, where they identify particles visually in event displays of proton-proton-collisions and thus assign an event to predetermined classes of events produce plots (histograms) out of their results and discuss them afterwards at the venue and during the videoconference

From the international idea of Masterclasses to a national network among particle physics institutes and schools
Netzwerk Teilchenwelt 24 German HEP institutes of which 22 host Masterclasses like events & 16 welcome students to Cosmic research days = almost all German particle physics institutes around 140 scientists involved ! high school students High school teachers
national Masterclasses ✴ adaption of the International Masterclasses format ✴ in “national Masterclasses” students experience being a scientist for half a day ✴ 1 talk + measurement + discussion ✴ carried out by PhD students (paid by the network) assisted by students and teachers from the network at schools, school labs, fairs and exhibitions ✴ groups of high-school students cosmic projects ✴ 20 cosmic days, 30 cosmic weeks and 5 cosmic research projects a year ✴ detection of cosmic rays by scintillators (using QuarkNet DAQ card), “Kamiokanne” (cherenkov light detector, PM on top of an...) ✴ lead by PhD students assisted by students and teachers from the network
