Presentation transcript:

Acts 1: In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.’ 6 Then they gathered round him and asked him, ‘Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ 7 He said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the

times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Pentecost - Acts 2 This was a game-changer moment. What will rescue the world? v6

Blueprint for the disciples

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. v8

You will receive power Who gets the power? We do… God has no favourites Acts 10:34 Wycliff’s translation Latin Fortis - brave.

Access to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 12) Tools for us to use. Prophecy, healing, discernment, miracles, faith, speaking in tongues, words of knowledge, wisdom. To equip his people for acts of service Eph 4:12

The water butt… Holy Spirit IN Holy Spirit OUT No IN – dry No OUT - stagnant

You will be my witnesses Telling our story. It has the power to change lives.

Also our lives bear witness. Clothed Gal 3:27 A lifestyle. We’d never go out naked! Clothed with power from on high.

This is how Paul changed towns. Not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power 1Cor 2:4 Then he urged people to copy his life. 1 Cor 4:16 Who is watching our life? Who will follow us into faith?

In Jerusalem… How does God want us to reach out from our church? Start on our doorstep. Where is your Jerusalem?

True healthy mission… Equipped with the power of the Holy Spirit… Let Jesus leak out of us. Don’t over think it.

Many small flames…
